Our Junior section is overseen by a Junior Committee Chaired by our General Manager, Steve Scott-Bowen who is also a PGA Professional. Our PGA professional coaching team play a very active part in growing our junior section and are passionate coaches delivering a comprehensive, fun and engaging coaching programme that aims to identify and develop young talent for both new non-member juniors via the academy coaching sessions, and our junior members.
We currently have both boys and girls in the County teams in our ranks and many other fine players. Our professionals can give personal tuition to all the boys and girls and arrange a full programme of matches for them to experience competitive golf in a friendly environment.
Golf is one of the best sports in the world and offers so many benefits from keeping fit and active, improving mental health and wellbeing, teaching young people social skills and increasing career opportunities.
We are committed to junior golf and believe it is our duty to ensure we equip all prospective joiners with the skills and knowledge required to get the best from their membership and help them develop into lifelong golfers.
Prospective junior members who apply to join will be asked to attend an assessment with one of our PGA professionals. This has been designed to enable us to understand the young person's current level of ability and basic knowledge of the game. There will be three outcomes from this assessment as follows.
If the junior is or has been a member of another club with a WHS handicap they will be eligible to join the Club on the Eagles category.
If the Junior is deemed to have the ability and knowledge required to be able to play on a golf course but does not have an official WHS handicap they may join the Club on the Birdies category.
If the professional feels the junior needs more support before becoming a member they will be invited to attend our junior academy golf lesson programmes using the Junior Golf Passport structured learning Programme.
Birdies Category
This is the entry-level membership for juniors who do not have a current WHS handicap but have either gained competency through our beginners Junior Golf Passport structured learning programme with the PGA professionals or have passed an assessment with a resident PGA professional.
